Plant Plus Foods, headquartered in Chicago’s famous Fulton Market District, offers plant-based protein products rooted in nutrition and culinary expertise using state-of-the-art technology in association with their parent companies ADM and Marfrig. The space is a “co-creation hub” that provides dual functionality between cooking and hosting events, with an agile office and meeting space. GARNETT helped them achieve this through flexible office planning and by creating an efficient, open, impactful, and “exploratory” kitchen for collaborating with plant-based food industry stakeholders, retailers, and chefs to develop new products.

GARNETT completed lobby, elevator, and amenity space designs for this new Class A development in the Fulton Market area of Chicago’s West Loop. A high end industrial loft/hospitality concept was stitched into all areas of design; from the entry/reception lounge to the tenant bar/lounge/terrace/conference spaces & fitness center on the 13th Floor overlooking Chicago’s dramatic skyline.

The innovative tenant-centric ZO concept takes tenant amenities to a whole new level in this inviting bar/lounge & hospitality/service oriented space for tenants at this Chicago riverfront gem. GARNETT endeavored to give this ZO suite a unique spin in a retail location within the historic atrium of the 1920’s Classical Revival building. The space includes lounges, conference and work spaces, nap/travel pods, and flexible space for health and beauty services.

This multi-floor relocation in Chicago’s Loop encompassed almost 180,000 rentable square feet of creative and collaborative environments for a young and mobile workforce. As a consulting firm, West Monroe focused on creating a “client-ready” space where they can engage directly with their customers in ways that enhance the interactive experience and allow the development and expression of complex ideas. The majority of the space is based on a flexible free-addressing environment, with a wide variety of impromptu collaboration areas that encourage movement throughout the work day.

In an effort to create better synergies and reinforce the company culture, GARNETT helped West Monroe stitch together two creative groups that were separated located in Minneapolis. The modern loft building selected afforded an opportunity to create an open atrium style space that was fundamentally designed as an interactive collaborative client focused environment throughout. Concepts of transparency, openness, and innovation are also expressed in all the materials and details of this dynamic two story office. A separate penthouse lounge, roof deck, and entertainment suite was designed by GARNETT for West Monroe’s exclusive use as part of the program.

With the renovation of FOX32's WFLD Chicago newsroom & support spaces, and construction of new executive offices, GARNETT’s design celebrates the vibrant and frenetic qualities of the news industry while still providing private and contemplative areas for respite. The first and second floor renovation includes digital studios, edit suites, private and collaborative workspaces, conference rooms, phone rooms, a modern café nook, and strategically located coffee stations. The addition of exterior windows overlooking the newsroom and the liberal use of glass partitions throughout the space added transparency and natural light to the entire space and highlighted all the interactions and activity of that make WFLD’s environment so unique.

The penthouse floor of 190 South LaSalle already included a beautiful former law library, but GARNETT modernized and refurbished the existing library and replaced the adjacent traditional office space with a trendy new bar, tenant amenity, and event space. The complex volumes are the result of colliding rooflines in the building’s structure, and while the design was uniquely challenging - the results were uniquely inspiring!

After adopting an agile workplace framework across their organization, FreeWheel Marketing (formerly Strata) a Comcast Company, needed a new Chicago Headquarters that better suited their company culture, and offered greater opportunities for both collaboration and focused private space. GARNETT directed the planning, selection, and design, of a relocation to a spectacular six story atrium floor at 33 W Monroe in Chicago. Their 40,000 square foot floor includes a “building-within-a-building” as a backdrop to their dynamic reception area – a unique space that functions as a formal boardroom, and converts to a large company presentation/event space via a vertical folding glass partition. A large café space provides a key transition zone between reception, a collaborative public space, and organizational open office areas.

Breaking the mold for law firms with their new space, Edelson PC was looking for flexible, inspirational, and youthful space that reflected their unique culture. With the feel of an industrial loft, their new floors at 350 N LaSalle include a volleyball court, a golf simulator, and a chic open café with street art spray painted on the focal walls. The design highlights include custom sliding barn doors to provide extra wide openings at partner offices, polished concrete floors & exposed concrete columns, a hanging lounge chair, and a large centrally located communicating stair which connects the two floors of their space.

The relocation of CDW's headquarters to Lincolnshire, Illinois was a monumental undertaking. Staff from three different facilities were brought together in this 209,000 RSF project which included connecting two buildings with a newly designed three story sky bridge and redevelopment of a shared ground level atrium space to act as the primary building entry point. The design style is both fluid and organic, the plans incorporate new and creative collaborative areas, and the space achieves a high population density without compromising an individual’s need for private space and unique geographic identities.

CN approached GARNETT Architects, LLC with a request to develop a cutting edge educational building designed to train the next generation of railroaders. Over the course of almost 3 years, GARNETT worked with CN to shape the program and evaluate potential sites for a new buildings, before deciding to construct the Training Excellence Center adjacent to their US Headquarters in Homewood, Illinois. A generous public space in the new building anchors two stories of highly specialized training rooms along with other teaching and administrative spaces – including a transportation lab, simulation rooms, and direct access to welding shops, live track, and a locomotive repair shop.
A cutting edge premise for building a new facility resulted in cutting edge design in a learning center for the next generation of railroaders. Generous public spaces anchor two stories of highly specialized training, labs and administrative areas.

This hip, new bar/lounge amenity on the 29th Floor of The Franklin is the perfect destination for tenants and guests of this two tower complex in Chicago’s Loop. The converted double story space, sandwiched between mechanical spaces on the floor, has spectacular north views across the city’s famous skyline. Elements of exterior rooftop decks, which dot the downtown area, are introduced to the space, including pergolas and wood decking throughout. The "interior roof deck" is punctuated by spectacular light fixtures like fireworks in the night sky and fireplaces at both ends of the dramatic space. Sophisticated and cozy, cool and comfortable, R29 is the perfect location for informal mid-day business meetings or a glass of wine after hours.

An architect, a teacher, and an entrepreneur with a penchant for adventure. Loves his work and the people he works with.

Ted established Garnett Architects, LLC in July 2005 as a full service design firm. Practicing in the field of architecture since 1994, his experience includes large scale commercial, corporate interior and residential projects while living and working in Hong Kong, England, Canada and the U.S. He maintains constant and direct involvement in each and every project in the office. Ted is a licensed architect in multiple states, is NCARB Certified, a Self-Cert Approved Architect and a Registered Energy Professional in the City of Chicago. He received a Bachelor of Technology in Architecture from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada and a Master of Architecture with high distinction from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor including studies at the Danish International School in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Jack Janowiak

Partner / Technical Director

Architectural code-master, technical guru, trivia king and family man. Draws like the wind!

Jack has been practicing in commercial interiors since 1988 and has worked with corporate, healthcare, financial, non-profit and retail clients. As a partner in the firm he oversees all projects from pre-lease building analysis through design, construction and occupancy of the space. His depth of experience and technical expertise are invaluable on complex projects and when translating design concepts into the drawings and details necessary to bid and build projects. Mr. Janowiak received a five-year Bachelor of Architecture degree from University of Illinois at Chicago, with a Major in Design, a detailed background in Structure and Building Science, and a Minor degree in History of Architecture.

Alicia Perkovich

Partner / Design Director

Don’t let her smile fool you, she runs the show. A consummate professional who accepts nothing less than perfection and never fails to deliver it!

Alicia has been working in the commercial interiors industry in Chicago since 1998. As the Design Director at Garnett Architects, LLC she demands the highest standards of design and professionalism on each and every project in the office. In addition to providing overall design direction, she contributes her talent and skill when developing the subtle yet sophisticated color and material palettes which are the hallmark of Garnett’s tailored designs. Alicia’s direct involvement from start to finish, and her attention to detail during all phases of the process, helps to maintain the integrity of the original design concepts through to project completion. Alicia received a Bachelor of Interior Design from Louisiana State University, and Chelsea College of Art & Design in London, England.

Davin Pirkola

Senior Director

An architect with the heart (and hand) of an artist, the practical nature of an engineer, and the experience to tackle almost any imaginable problem.

Davin has been practicing in the field of architecture since 1994. His experience includes corporate interiors, large scale residential, commercial, education, and healthcare projects. As Senior Director he brings the highest level of design and technical excellence to all his projects. Davin is a licensed architect and LEED Accredited Professional. He studied at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where he received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, and Master of Architecture with distinction.

Paula Lutz

Project Director

 

Paula brings GARNETT Architects over 30 years of experience in the design industry ranging from residential and commercial interiors to furniture sales and historic downtown revitalization. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, she worked in firms in Tennessee, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota before settling in Chicago in 1999. Her varied experience provides a broad perspective to her work that ranges from large scale, national and international, corporate interiors to locally based business start-ups. Paula is a Registered Interior Designer in Illinois and a LEED Accredited Professional.

Chatsaran joined GARNETT as a design intern, and took a fulltime position with the firm as a Designer and Head Resource Librarian.  She brings experience as a content creator in the luxury industry and has a highly refined and contemporary design aesthetic.

Nick’s thoughtful and detail-oriented approach to design is evident in all aspects of his project work – from space planning to development of sophisticated material palettes, and from 3D modeling studies and presentations to construction detailing. He received his Bachelor of Interior Architecture from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with studies abroad in Cuba.

Urja is working with GARNETT Architects as a summer intern in 2021. After living and schooling in both the USA and the UK growing up, she has now completed three years of a four year Bachelor of Interior Architecture at Columbia College in Chicago, IL.

Urja started with GARNETT Architects as a summer intern in 2021.  After living and schooling in both the USA and the UK growing up, she has completed a four years Bachelor of Interior Architecture at Columbia College in Chicago, IL and took a full time position after graduating.
